"Hasta Mosquito Baby!"

Powerman and Mosquitoboy started in 2005 as part of a kid's program we wrote for our church's Vacation Bible School. We did a Superhero themed VBS and each episode corresponded with the teaching theme for the day. The kids loved it and we returned next year with Powerman and Mosquitoboy in Space. After a two year break Powerman and Mosquitoboy returned--with better costumes and HD cameras--for Powerman and Mosquitoboy: Deceptor's Revenge. Deceptor's Revenge left a lot of unanswered questions, especially if you saw the end of the speacial edition, so it is likely that we haven't seen the last of Powerman and Mosquitoboy.
After the second season, we decided to make copies of the DVD and give them away at our church. We've probably gave away several hundred copies of the second season DVD over the next two years as families took them for themselves and for friends. We've heard stories of people using them in children's ministry in other states and even other countries.
Part of our philosophy was to aim the videos at an older elementary age boy. We figured that if we could make something that appealed to that target, the other kids would like it as well. We know that we can't compete with Hollywood for special effects, but humor, action and imagination is something that doesn't take a huge budget. It's been really cool for us to hear stories of how much kids enjoy these, even those without church background. It really motivates us to make more of these, even though it is a crazy amount of work.
So while these videos were primality for our church's outreach, it would be great to see them used in other ways as well. If you have questions or ideas, feel free to let me know!
